Meet
Nick Petrillo
&
NPM Productions

Nick Petrillo is a music director, arranger, and producer based in New York City. Originally from Central New Jersey, he is a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston and holds degrees in both Film Scoring and Contemporary Writing & Production. In 2010, he moved to Los Angeles, CA and started Nick Petrillo Music Productions, which launched his career as both a touring music director and an orchestrator for TV and Film. Over the course of 15 years, Nick has expanded NPM internationally to cater to artists, production companies, and independent corporations for all of their production needs. In 2021, NPM moved it’s base of operations to New York City and runs a bi-coastal operation.

Nick’s expertise stems from an early education in classical music before branching off into jazz and pop. Prior to Berklee, he was a composition major at Manhattan School of Music, which ignited his passion for film music. This led him to work for some of the top entertainment companies in the world as an orchestrator during his tenure in Los Angeles. Notable projects include “Modern Family” on ABC and “Halo 4” for Microsoft.

Since 2010, Nick has performed, recorded, and toured internationally with Dave Koz, David Foster, Valerie Simpson, Michael McDonald, Katharine McPhee, Casey Abrams, Ariana Savalas, Aubrey Logan, Tommy Davidson, and Jeff Lorber. In 2019, he worked as an associate music director and pianist on ABC’s “American Idol.” As an arranger and orchestrator, he has written for the likes of David Foster, Seal, Rod Stewart, Wu Tang Clan, Candy Dulfer, Eric Darius, Michael Orland, and Dave Stroud.
Starting in 2020, Nick began the studio production arm of his company, having produced tracks for Ilya Serov, Ariana Savalas, Aubrey Logan, and Sunset Singers.

Nick continues to work both on-site and remotely for live performances and recording sessions and NPM continues to expand to meet the needs of a growing population of artists and companies who need top-tier production tools for their brand. Let us know how we can help!

How fast do you deliver?

We attempt to deliver between 2-5 business days, dependent on the complexity of the project. You can add a rush delivery of 24-48 hour turn-around, or a weekend rush delivery. Fees will vary based on the complexity and time of turnaround.

How do I place an order?

You can get a quote for your project by heading to our Contact Form. Select the type of service you’re interested in along with a link to the audio to be arranged, the demo to be produced, or a description of what you need from us. We’ll get back to you with a quote. If everything looks good, we’ll immediately get started on everything for you!

How do I send a YouTube link or URL?

There are comprehensive instructions on how to do this here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/57741

Can I cancel an order after I place it?

It depends on how quickly you cancel it.

If you cancel before we get started, we’ll be happy to give you a 100% refund.

If you cancel after we’ve started the job but before it’s completed, we will give you anywhere from 10% to 50% refund, depending on how much work our team member has already put into the job.

Once the job is delivered, there are no refunds unless we have made major errors in the job that we cannot fix (and that happens very rarely!).

What files will NPM deliver?

For arrangements and transcriptions, we will send you PDFs of your sheet music and the original Dorico files if you ever need your sheet music altered. For ensembles, big band, orchestral arrangements, we also supply a demo recording from Dorico.

For tracks, we deliver WAV files, or MP3s if requested. We will also send you the project file from Logic or ProTools if you would like to open them with another mixing engineer.

File formats explained

PDF – this is the sheet music that you can print off, or view on your device
Dorico – editable file type to be read by Dorico notation software.
WAV/MPM – a digital audio file that can be played back on your device, mixed, or played back using a digital audio workstation like ProTools, MainStage, Ableton, or Logic.

Stems – WAVs or MP3s of groups of instruments or FX that can be played back in a digital audio workstation or mixed down to a final mix.
Logic/ProTools – digital audio workstations which can manipulate audio files for editing or mixing purposes.

What is your refund policy?

If you cancel before we get started, we’ll be happy to give you a 100% refund.

If you cancel after we’ve started the job but before it’s completed, we will give you anywhere from 10% to 50% refund, depending on how much work our team member has already put into the job.

Once the job is delivered, there are no refunds unless we have made major errors in the job that we cannot fix (and that happens very rarely!).

Arrangements & Transcriptions

How does it work?

First, you send us the song you want us to arrange or transcribe for you; if the song exists on YouTube you can send us the link on our Contact Form.

Then, let us know what you want us to do with it. There are a few crucial bits of info we need from you:

  • Duration – do you need the whole song, or just part of it?
  • Instrumentation – do you want to play the song on piano, or do you need a full orchestral score?
  • Lyrics – if you would like us to include the lyrics in the score, please provide the text.

Once we have all that, and you’ve agreed upon a price, we will work on crafting the sheet music exactly the way you asked for it!

When we’re done, we’ll send you an email with your sheet music files.

What’s the difference between arrange & transcribe?

When you ask us to “transcribe” an instrument, we listen for that exact instrument in the song you sent us, and write it down.

When you ask us to “arrange” for an instrument, we will rewrite the music for the instrument of your choice (say you want to learn the song on saxophone, even though the original was played on flute).

It might be easiest to explain with an example, so we’ve outlined a common instance below:

Arrange for piano and vocals
This is where we create a piano accompaniment based on all of the instruments in the original recording, not just the piano. Useful for when piano isn’t the main accompanying instrument in the original recording, but you want to play it on piano.

Transcribe piano and vocals
This is where we hear an actual piano playing, and write down the notes it plays, along with the vocal part. Useful for when you want to play the exact piano part from the original recording.

What music styles do you work in?

NPM has it’s roots in classical and jazz music. For over 15 years, we’ve worked with hundreds of artists internationally on all music styles and genres: pop, jazz, Broadway, rock, classical, R&B, blues, reggae, country, hip-hop, EDM, folk, and every style in between!

What instruments do you specialize in?

We can write and produce for any instrument you may need! Nick started out as a pianist and keyboardist, and soon ventured into jazz and pop bands. NPM has extensive knowledge of pop instrumentation (drums, bass, guitar, keyboards and horns). Over the past 20 years, NPM has been one of the foremost Hollywood orchestrators and arrangers, specializing also in big bands and symphony orchestras.

Why do I need to provide lyrics?

In order to prevent slip-ups in the lyrics, it is always best if you can provide us with a definitive text to work from.

If you don’t have a copy of the lyrics, we can do our best to decipher them – but there may be mistakes, or they may be omitted entirely!

If I ask for “vocals,” will I get all the vocal parts in the song?

Not necessarily; we typically use “Vocals” as a shorthand to mean the lead voice part. That means we will transcribe the main vocal melody for your song. If the BGV’s are important to you, please ensure you add the number of “Vocals” to the order as you require.

However, if you need a choral transcription, you will need to select one of our choir options instead. This is because our rates are affected by the number of parts we have to transcribe – a choir is more work than the lead vocal. You can always clarify further in the order comments.

What if I only need a few seconds or a snippet of a song?

At NPM, our pricing is based on how long your reference track is. If we’re arranging for you, our rates are charged per 30 seconds of audio.

Can you create “easy arrangements” or educational versions of your products?

Yes! Many of our clients through the years have been high schools, universities, and artists that are just starting out. For our written arrangements, that means simplified notation, large noteheads with names, and fingering suggestions.

Will you include chord symbols?

Yes! All our transcriptions come with chord symbols by default (except for solo percussion/drum charts). If you would prefer us not to include chord symbols, that’s no problem – just leave us a comment to that effect in your order notes.

Can you convert handwritten music to a printed PDF?

Yes we can. Give us your handwritten (or printed) sheet music, and we’ll convert it to a beautiful PDF file. You’ll also get an MP3 and a .Dorico file if you want to edit the music afterwards using Dorico. Pricing varies depending on complexity and paper size.

Live Performance & Tools

How does it work?

First, you send us a bit about your artistic vision and needs. Generally for live performance inquiries, we like to set up a phone call to discuss your specifics. Then, we can tell you what we could offer you in terms of music direction and band contracting.
If you need riders or backing tracks, just send us your needs in our Contact Form. We’ll send you back a quote and, if you agree to our price, we’ll get started rioght away!

What instruments can you record?

Because of our diverse roster of musicians, and the great tools available to us in the modern age, we can record virtually any instrument! We use a combination of live players and virtual instruments to create our backing tracks, to get the perfect balance between quality, speed of delivery and cost.

How do you handle the expense of travel and contracting?

NPM will book everything you need on our end and supply you with a reimbursement invoice at the end of our services. For large scale productions, we will set up installment plans for you to ensure that you aren’t hit with a large bill at the end of your project.

How fast do you deliver riders, backing tracks and guides?

We attempt to deliver between 2-5 business days, dependent on the complexity of the project. You can add a rush delivery of 24-48 hour turn-around, or a weekend rush delivery. Fees will vary based on the complexity and time of turnaround.
